Congress reaches agreement on COVID-19 relief and federal funding<\/div>\r\n

<\/p>\r\nA bipartisan agreement to provide COVID-19 relief<\/a> to the nation and appropriate funding for the federal government has been reached.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nThe text of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021, was released on Monday. Lawmakers in both the U.S. House of Representatives<\/a> and the U.S. Senate<\/a> are expected to approve the bill later in the day.\r\n

<\/p>\r\n“This Act includes the 12 regular appropriations bills for fiscal year 2021, supplemental appropriations for coronavirus response and relief, and other matter,” an explanatory statement<\/a> submitted by Rep. Nita Lowey (D-New York), the outgoing chairwoman of the House Committee on Appropriations, reads.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nThe text of the entire measure has been posted on docs.house.gov<\/a> although technical difficulties have hindered access to some of the documents. The section of interest for Indian Country is Division G<\/a>.\r\n

<\/p>\r\n

BILLS-116RCP68-JES-DIVISION-G<\/a><\/div>\r\n

<\/p>\r\nDivision G<\/a> contains funding amounts for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Bureau of Indian Education, the Indian Health Service and many other key tribal programs.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nPassage of the bill is necessary to keep the U.S. government up and running for the current fiscal year. Without appropriations, the BIA and other agencies will have to shut down non-critical operations.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nThe links below cover the appropriations portions of the measure. The COVID-19 relief parts — Division M and Division N — do not appear to have explanatory statements posted as of early Monday afternoon.\r\n
