<\/p>\r\n\u201cWe often have to send them to other facilities with more resources,\u201d she says. Patient acuity is a parameter used in allocating nursing staff.\r\n
<\/p>\r\nWilson pauses her clinical assessment.\r\n
<\/p>\r\n\u201cI cry at work,\u201d she says quietly.\r\n
<\/p>\r\nBorn and raised on the reservation, Wilson has worked at the Rosebud hospital for the bulk of her career. She knows most of its patients.\r\n
<\/p>\r\n\u201cIf I don\u2019t know them personally, I know their parents or family; emotionally, it\u2019s been really hard,\u201d she said.\r\n
<\/p>\r\nWilson recently attended the funeral of her adoptive mother, who died from COVID-19.\r\n
<\/p>\r\n\u201cShe was 81, a powerful person who had a big impact on people, \u201calways happy and praying for everybody,\u201d she said.\r\n
