Witnesses will appear virtually:\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<div class=mx-4>\r\nTHE HONORABLE BRIAN VALLO<BR>\r\nGovernor<BR><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puebloofacoma.org\/\">Pueblo of Acoma<\/a><BR>\r\nAcoma, New Mexico\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nTHE HONORABLE KIRK FRANCIS<BR>\r\nPresident<BR><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usetinc.org\/\">United South and Eastern Tribes Sovereignty Protection Fund<\/a><BR>\r\nNashville, Tennessee\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nMR. JOHN ECHOHAWK<BR>\r\nExecutive Director<BR><a href=\"https:\/\/www.narf.org\/\">Native American Rights Fund<\/a><BR>\r\nBoulder, Colorado\r\n<\/div>\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nThe hearing is the first since the Republican-controlled <a href=https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/>U.S. Senate<\/a> returned to work following the November election. It will likely be the last before the 116th session of Congress closes later this month.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThe committee held a post-election <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2020\/11\/18\/senate-committee-on-indian-affairs-holds-post-election-business-meeting\/>business meeting<\/a> on November 18. Four bills were <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2020\/11\/19\/senate-committee-on-indian-affairs-business-meeting-to-consider-s-790-s-3264-s-4079-s-4556\/>advanced at the gathering<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoeven.senate.gov\/\">Sen. John Hoeven <\/a>(R-North Dakota) has served as chairman of the panel during the 116th Congress, which began in January 2019. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomudall.senate.gov\/\">Sen. Tom Udall<\/a> (D-New Mexico) has been the vice chair.\r\n<p><\/p><div class=\"mt-1 mb-1\"><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8411603009680747\" data-ad-slot=\"6394965691\"><\/ins><script>(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/script><\/div><P><\/P>\r\nHoeven is expected to step down from the leadership role during the next session of Congress. Udall is retiring so he will no longer be in the Senate.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nA new chair and vice chair are due to be selected in the 117th Congress, which begins in January 2021. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schatz.senate.gov\/\">Sen. Brian Schatz<\/a> (D-Hawaii), he and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.murkowski.senate.gov\/\">Sen. Lisa Murkowski<\/a> (R-Alaska) are in <a href=https:\/\/youtu.be\/lvLe_jXYQhY>line to lead the committee<\/a> for the upcoming session.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nRepublicans currently hold 52 seats in the Senate while Democrats hold 48.
