Three items are on the agenda:\r\n<P><\/p>\r\n<div class=mx-4>\r\n&#8226; The nomination of Patrice H. Kunesh, of Minnesota, to be Chair of the <a href=https:\/\/www.nigc.gov\/>National Indian Gaming Commission<\/a>, the federal agency that <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2024\/09\/17\/national-indian-gaming-commission-enters-new-era-under-president-biden\/>oversees the $41.9 billion tribal casino industry<\/a>. A confirmation hearing took place on <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2024\/09\/18\/video-nomination-hearing-to-consider-patrice-h-kunesh-to-be-chair-of-national-indian-gaming-commission\/>September 18<\/a>, with Kunesh as the sole witness.\r\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"20\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" allow=\"autoplay\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/1918823168&#038;color=%23ff5500&#038;inverse=false&#038;auto_play=false&#038;show_user=false\"><\/iframe>\r\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"20\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" allow=\"autoplay\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/1918823156&#038;color=%23ff5500&#038;inverse=false&#038;auto_play=false&#038;show_user=false\"><\/iframe>\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n&#8226; <a href=https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/senate-bill\/4643>S.4643<\/a>, the Zuni Indian Tribe Water Rights Settlement Act of 2024. The bill settles the water rights of the <a href=https:\/\/www.ashiwi.org>Pueblo of Zuni<\/a>  in New Mexico and authorizes <a href=https:\/\/www.heinrich.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/nm-delegation-announces-water-rights-bill-for-zuni-tribe>$685 million in federal funding to support the tribe&#8217;s water resources<\/a>, including <a href=https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zu\u00f1i_Salt_Lake>Zuni Salt Lake<\/a>, a sacred place. A hearing took place on <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2024\/09\/26\/video-legislative-hearing-to-receive-testimony-on-s-4444-s-4633-s-4643-s-4705-s-4998\/>September 25<\/a>, featuring testimony from Governor  Arden Kucate of the Zuni Tribe.\r\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"20\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" allow=\"autoplay\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/1923744299&#038;color=%23ff5500&#038;inverse=false&#038;auto_play=false&#038;show_user=false\"><\/iframe>\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n&#8226; <a href=https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/senate-bill\/4998>S.4998<\/a>, the Navajo Nation Rio San Jos\u00e9 Stream System Water Rights Settlement Act of 2024. The bill settles the water rights of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navajo-nsn.gov\/\">Navajo Nation<\/a> to the <a href=https:\/\/www.heinrich.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/heinrich-leger-fernandez-lead-bill-to-approve-water-rights-settlement-for-the-navajo-nation-in-the-rio-san-jose-watershed#>Rio San Jos\u00e9 Stream System in New Mexico<\/a>.
