<\/p>\r\nThe following is the two-page statement of Sen. Markwayne Mullin<\/a> (R-Oklahoma) at his nomination hearing to be Secretary of Homeland Security<\/a>.\r\n

<\/p>\r\n Mullin is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation<\/a>. If confirmed, he would be the first Native person in President Donald Trump’s cabinet and the first Native person to lead the Department of Homeland Security<\/a>.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nThe Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs<\/a> has scheduled a business meeting on March 19 on Mullin’s nomination.\r\n
