Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/auvet\/28337350856\/in\/photostream\/\">Jimmy Emerson, DVM<\/a>\r\n<\/figcaption>\r\n<div class=\"h3-responsive font-weight-bold\">Northern Cheyenne women dominate new council<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"date\">Thursday, November 12, 2020<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"byline\">By Clara Caufield<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"byline\">Native Sun News Today Correspondent<\/div>\r\n<div class=source-website><a href=https:\/\/www.nativesunnews.today\/>nativesunnews.today<\/a><\/div>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n On November 3, 2020, general election day for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheyennenation.com\/\">Northern Cheyenne Tribe<\/a> in Montana, tribal members made history, surprising themselves and many others across the country.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n Women were elected to all but one of the open seats: Tribal President, Tribal Vice-President and five Council seats by overwhelming margins.  The position of Tribal Trial Judge was retained by incumbent David Roundstone, his the only name on the ballot, however another woman was, by write-in vote elected to hold the other Tribal Judgeship position.  These new officials will serve four year terms.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u203c\ufe0fThe Northern Cheyenne Nation has elected ALL women for the first time ever as Tribal President, Vice President, &amp; all 5 open seats on Tribal Council\u203c\ufe0f This has never happened before. It\u2019s an amazing day to be a Cheyenne woman! The next 4 years for my Tribe will be good years.<\/p>&mdash; Dr. Dr. Desi (she\/her) (@native4data) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/native4data\/status\/1323991281186426880?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 4, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n The votes were as follows:\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<div class=\"mx-4\">\r\n<strong>Tribal President:<\/strong> <em>Donna Marie Fisher<\/em> (825) defeated Gene Small (542).  Fisher is a former Tribal Council member.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<strong>Tribal Vice-President:<\/strong> <em>Serena Brady Wetherelt<\/em> (819) defeated Sheldon King (548).  Wetherelt is a newcomer to Tribal politics.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<strong>Tribal Judge:<\/strong> <em>J. David Roundstone<\/em> (928).  Roundtone was an incumbent.   \r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThere were numerous write-in ballots cast for the other Tribal Judge Vacancy, the top vote-getter, <em>Doris Littlewolf<\/em>, was the top vote-getter in that category with 168 votes. Littlewolf is experienced in the court system.\r\n<\/div>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<div class=\"fb-post\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/councilmanspottedelk\/posts\/2754227644897020\" data-width=\"552\" style=\"background-color: #fff; display: inline-block;\"><\/div>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<div class=\"mx-4\">\r\n<strong>Tribal Council Seats:<\/strong> <BR>\r\nAshland District:  <em>Melissa Rae Fisher<\/em> (804) defeated  Joseph Daniel Littlecoyote, Jr. (546).  Fisher has been a tribal employee and district official for years.  She is also the daughter of President-elect Donna Fisher.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nBirney:  <em>Gwen Talawyma<\/em> (689) defeated Llevando \u201cCowboy\u201d Fisher (572).  Talawyma is also a new comer to politics.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nBusby District: <em>Norma Gourneau<\/em> (740) defeated Eloise Snow (546). Gourneau is a former tribal official, Tribal Vice-President and Council member now retired from the BIA.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nLame Deer District: <em>Silver Little Eagle<\/em> (890) defeated  August \u201cTiger\u201d Scalpcane (469).  Silver, the youngest person elected to the Council is also new to tribal politics, having recently worked at the tribal elderly program.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nMuddy District:  <em>Debra Watters Charette<\/em> (786) defeated George Scalpcane (571).
