<\/P>\r\nThe Quapaw Nation<\/a> issued the following statement on October 9, 2024, in connection with the Tulsa King<\/em> television show<\/a> on the Paramount+ streaming network.<\/em>\r\n

<\/p>\r\nQUAPAW RESERVATION — It has come to the attention of the Quapaw Nation Business Committee that Season 2, Episode 4 of the Paramount+ television show “Tulsa King,” introduced characters from the Quapaw Nation including tribal leaders who were portrayed as being involved in a criminal conspiracy related to marijuana and wind energy.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nHowever, the Quapaw Nation was neither consulted nor given the opportunity to approve or reject the use of our sovereign nation\u2019s name or portrayal of our people. The Quapaw Nation opposes any use of its name or purported portrayal of our people without the Nation\u2019s consent. This constitutes cultural appropriation, and we are offended at the context in which the Nation is portrayed. We call on the producers, directors, writers, actors, and distributors of Tulsa King to cease their misrepresentation of the Quapaw Nation, as well as their disparaging and disrespectful portrayal of our Nation, people, and our heritage. \r\n
