They have reason to be concerned: rats from a Japanese shipwreck more than 200 years ago inundated a series of Alaska\u2019s Aleutian islands, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/09\/25\/us\/rat-alaska-saint-paul-island.html?unlocked_article_code=1.QU4._gMn.J_RZiweOSxHo&#038;smid=url-share\">devastating the native species<\/a>. \r\n<p><\/p>\r\nAnd a part of Louisiana offers another cautionary tale about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.louisianafur.com\/nutria.html\">invasive rodents<\/a>. Nutria were originally introduced to help the fur trade.
