<\/P>\r\nTribes in Virginia continue to build relationships with key partners with a conference taking place this week.\r\n

<\/P>\r\nThe theme of this year’s Sovereign Nations of Virginia Conference<\/a> is “Pathways to Partnership: Enhancing Trust through Tribal Consultation.” Leaders from Virginia’s seven federally-recognized tribes will discuss how tribal consultation impacts sacred sites, higher education and cultural resources at the event on Thursday<\/a>.\r\n

<\/P>\r\nPresenters include representatives of the United South and Eastern Tribes<\/a>, the National Park Service<\/a> and The Wilderness Society<\/a>. The agenda follows:\r\n

<\/P>\r\nIn-person attendance at the Virginia Crossings Hotel and Conference Center in Glen Allen has reached capacity. Interested participants can register and join the event virtually.\r\n

<\/P>\r\nThe event is hosted and organized by the Rappahannock Tribe<\/a>. The Rappahannock gained federal recognition through an act of Congress in 2017, along with the Chickahominy Tribe<\/a>, the Chickahominy Indian Tribe \u2013 Eastern Division<\/a>,\r\n the Monacan Nation<\/a>, the Nansemond Nation<\/a> and the Upper Mattaponi Tribe<\/a>.\r\n

<\/P>\r\nAlso participating in the Sovereign Nations of Virginia Conference is the Pamunkey Tribe<\/a>, whose federal status was acknowledged through the federal acknowledgment process<\/a> at the Bureau of Indian Affairs<\/a>.\r\n
