Photo: <a href=https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/jeromeg111\/7653905792\/> JeromeG111<\/a><\/figcaption>\r\n<div class=\"h3-responsive font-weight-bold\">Seneca Nation company lands deal to provide clean energy to government buildings<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"date\">Friday, August 2, 2024<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"source\">Indianz.Com<\/div>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nA company owned by the <a href=\"https:\/\/sni.org\">Seneca Nation<\/a> will be providing clean energy to 185 U.S. government buildings across 12 states under a landmark deal.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/senecaenvironmental.com\/\">Seneca Environmental<\/a>, the energy solutions division of <a href=\"https:\/\/senecaholdings.com\">Seneca Holdings<\/a>, the wholly owned investment arm of the Seneca Nation, won the first-ever solicitation of its kind. The firm  will sell energy attribute certificates to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Energy_Policy_Act_of_2005\">General Services Administration<\/a> (GSA) to power the government buildings with carbon pollution-free electricity.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n\u201cSeneca Environmental is building our capacity to participate in power markets and serve customers that value authentic business relationships with tribally owned enterprises,\u201d   Jeffrey Ellis, CEO of Seneca Holdings, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/senecaenvironmental.com\/news-release-seneca-environmental-wins-first-gsa-solicitation-to-purchase-eacs-from-tribally-owned-business\/\">news release<\/a> on Friday. \u201cThis government contract provided us the opportunity to combine Seneca Environmental\u2019s growing capabilities in the renewable energy sector with our organization\u2019s already deep expertise doing business with the federal government.\u201d\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USGSA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@USGSA<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ENERGY?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ENERGY<\/a> are empowering <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TribalCommunities?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TribalCommunities<\/a> in the clean energy transition! Despite the law being on the books for nearly two decades, the action marked the first time it has been used to purchase energy from a tribal entity.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n\u201cThis historic award represents a real breakthrough by demonstrating that the government can buy affordable carbon-free electricity in ways that strengthen tribal nations and provide great value for taxpayers,\u201d   GSA Administrator Robin Carnahan said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsa.gov\/about-us\/newsroom\/news-releases\/general-services-administration-announces-historic-purchase-of-carbonfree-elect-08022024\">news release<\/a>. \u201cDispelling the myth that buying from tribal enterprises would come at a premium, this award shows that a clean energy future is all the brighter with partnerships in Indian Country \u2014 and demonstrates our commitment to building a clean energy economy that works for everyone.\u201d \r\n<P><\/P>\r\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">At <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RES2024?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#RES2024<\/a>, we reflect on our impactful partnership with Tribal Nations. The government is paying nearly $800,000 less for the same amount of energy compared to averages paid last year.\r\n <P><\/P>\r\n\u201cFor 20 years the Indian Energy Preference was dormant due to government red tape and bureaucracy.
