A companion bill is working through the U.S. House. [<a href=https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/senate-bill\/1723>S.1723<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/7227\">H.R.7227<\/a>]\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThe concept of an official panel to look into the abuses of boarding schools has surfaced previously but failed to take hold. The action comes as the <a href=\"https:\/\/boardingschoolhealing.org\/\">National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition<\/a> is launching a <a href=\"https:\/\/nibsda.elevator.umn.edu\/page\/view\/152\">database of documents, photographs, and other records<\/a> to help survivors and others connect understand the full weight of the boarding school era. \r\n<p><\/p>\r\nAnd an important <a href=\"https:\/\/anishinabeknews.ca\/2024\/06\/15\/weengushk-international-film-festival-announces-2024-programming\/\">event to promote healing from Canada\u2019s residential school era<\/a> is taking place in Ontario. Some voices in Canada are calling for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/saskatchewan\/lawyer-says-residential-school-denialism-should-be-added-to-criminal-code-1.6882579\">residential school \u201cdenialism\u201d be criminalized<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<div class=\"embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9\">\r\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center;
