<\/P>\r\nThe House Committee on Appropriations<\/a> is hearing from dozens of Indian Country leaders who are testifying about their funding needs for fiscal year 2025. This is the audio from the morning session of Day 1.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nThe witnesses are testifying before the House Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies<\/a>. Members of the panel will use the information as they develop the appropriations bill that funds the Bureau of Indian Affairs<\/a>, the Bureau of Indian Education<\/a>, the Indian Health Service<\/a> and other key agencies that carry out the federal government’s trust and treaty responsibilities to tribes and their citizens.\r\n

<\/P>\r\nThe subcommittee is led by Rep. Mike Simpson<\/a> (R-Idaho), who serves as Republican chair and Rep. Chellie Pingree<\/a> (D-Maine), who is the Democratic ranking member. The leaders are vowing to work in a bipartisan fashion to develop the funding bill.\r\n

<\/P>\r\nFiscal year 2025 begins on October 1, 2024. \r\n
