The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs took testimony on the bill at a legislative hearing on February 8<\/a>. The U.S. House of Representatives<\/a> passed H.R.1240 on February 5<\/a> so further action in the U.S. Senate<\/a> would put the bill over the finish line in the 118th Congress.<\/li>\r\n
- S.2796<\/a>, A bill to provide for the equitable settlement of certain Indian land disputes regarding land in Illinois, and for other purposes. The bill authorizes the U.S. Court of Federal Claims<\/a> to resolve a land claim of the Miami Tribe<\/a>, headquartered in Oklahoma. The claim is based on lands promised to the tribe by treaty in Illinois.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
<\/P>\r\nThe committee approved all five bills<\/a> at the business meeting. Each can now be considered by the full U.S. Senate<\/a> for further consideration.\r\n
