But fans defended the popular app and said the vote just proves that &#8220;the government is so completely out of touch with reality.&#8221;<P><\/P>\r\n&#8220;This is where our generation is at with media and with how we engage and how we connect,&#8221; said Lauren Valenzuela, a Tucson resident who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@sigfusdesigns?_t=8b3fxkvOkLD&amp;_r=1\">uses TikTok<\/a> to help advertise her business, Sigfus Designs. &#8220;And you (lawmakers) can just kind of write it off like this silly little thing, or you can engage with it and make it work.<P><\/P>\r\n&#8220;The thinking with all this stuff is just so dated, and we just need some new people in there,&#8221; she said.<P><\/P>\r\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepGallagher?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RepGallagher<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FaceTheNation?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@FaceTheNation<\/a> explains how the TikTok user experience can improve without Chinese Communist Party control.<br><br>\u201cYou wouldn\u2019t have this concern over being propagandized \u2014 the opaque algorithm influencing what information you see. Greg Stanton, D-Phoenix, who voted for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/118\/bills\/hr7521\/BILLS-118hr7521rh.pdf\">the bill,<\/a> said that TikTok users will be able to continue using the app if the bill passes &#8211; it will just ensure that they &#8220;can continue TikTok safely and securely.&#8221;<P><\/P>\r\n&#8220;We cannot allow a foreign adversary to collect sensitive data on millions of Americans, or use this platform to spread misinformation to undermine our democracy,&#8221; Stanton said in a statement after the vote.<P><\/P>\r\nStanton joined Republican Reps. Juan Ciscomani of Tucson, Eli Crane of Oro Valley and Debbie Lesko of Peoria in support of the bill. Opponents from Arizona included GOP Reps. Andy Biggs of Gilbert and David Schweikert of Fountain Hills, and Democrat Ruben Gallego of Phoenix.<P><\/P>\r\nRep. Ra\u00fal Grijalva, D-Tucson, and Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Bullhead City, did not vote.<P><\/P>\r\nThe Arizona delegation reflected the bipartisan vote by the full House, which passed the bill on <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/202486\">a 352-65 vote.<\/a> It now goes to the Senate where its chances are unsure after Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., vowed to block the measure, as he did the last time the issue came up in the Senate.<P><\/P>\r\n&#8220;The passage of the House TikTok ban is not just a misguided overreach; it&#8217;s a draconian measure that stifles free expression, tramples constitutional rights, and disrupts the economic pursuits of millions of Americans,&#8221; Paul said in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RandPaul\/status\/1767975282730811791?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet\">a statement<\/a> Wednesday.<P><\/P>\r\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The House ban of TikTok is not securing our nation\u2014it&#39;s a disturbing gift of unprecedented authority to President Biden and the Surveillance State that threatens the very core of American digital innovation and free expression.<\/p>&mdash; Senator Rand Paul (@SenRandPaul) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenRandPaul\/status\/1767991850101596570?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 13, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nThis is not the first time TikTok has faced a ban. The company fought off similar threats in 2020 when then-President Donald Trump tried to ban it as a threat to national security.
