{"id":3617,"date":"2020-10-26T09:16:37","date_gmt":"2020-10-26T14:16:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.indianz.com\/News\/?p=3617"},"modified":"2020-12-07T12:48:12","modified_gmt":"2020-12-07T17:48:12","slug":"gun-lake-tribe-secures-historic-preservation-grant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2020\/10\/26\/gun-lake-tribe-secures-historic-preservation-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"Gun Lake Tribe secures historic preservation grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"h3-responsive font-weight-bold\">National Park Service Grant Awarded to Gun Lake Tribe<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"date\">Monday, October 26, 2020<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"source\">Source: Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians (Gun Lake Tribe)<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"source-links\"><a href=https:\/\/gunlaketribe-nsn.gov\/>gunlaketribe-nsn.gov<\/a><\/div>\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nBRADLEY  Michigan &#8212; Gun Lake Tribe\u2019s Tribal Historic Preservation Office has been awarded a Tribal Heritage grant funded by the Historic Preservation Fund and administered by the National Park Service, Department of Interior.\r\n <P><\/P>\r\nThe funds awarded through this grant will allow the Tribal Historic Preservation Office to develop an inventory of cultural and historical resources related to Gun Lake Tribe and successfully implement forms, policies and procedures related to the GIS inventory.\r\n <P><\/P>\r\n\u201cThis project will build up the infrastructure on the Tribe\u2019s Historic Preservation office in order to support the Tribe in protecting cultural and historical resources and asserting our rights as a Sovereign Nation,\u201d says Bob Peters, Tribal Chairman.\r\n <P><\/P>\r\n<div class=\"fb-post\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/mbpitribe\/photos\/a.999223173464787\/3378023648918049\/\" data-width=\"552\" style=\"background-color: #fff; display: inline-block;\"><\/div>\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nThrough this project, the Tribe plans to develop a process to formally identify and inventory sites within the GIS database of cultural and historically significant sites in order to protect and preserve the sites and resources. The Bradley Indian Mission, located near Wayland, is the historic residential and cultural center point of the tribal community. The Tribe\u2019s ancestors, and political predecessors, signed treaties with the United States government dating back to 1795. The Tribe was re-affirmed to federal recognition in 1999.
