<\/p>\r\nThe Ute Tribe<\/a> is banning non-members from engaging in hunting, fishing and other outdoor recreational activities on the Uintah and Ouray Reservation<\/a> in Utah.\r\n

<\/P>\r\nIn a news release<\/a> on Wednesday, the tribe said all current permits for hunting, fishing and outdoor activities<\/a> have been terminated, effectively immediately. \r\nAn “indefinite moratorium” also has been placed on future permits for non-members.\r\n

<\/P>\r\n\u201cAs elected members of the business committee, we are duty-bound to take measures necessary to protect the health and safety of our members and our tribal officers,\u201d Chairman Julius T. Murray, III, said in the release. \r\n

<\/P>\r\n\u201cNonmember hunting and fishing on our lands is a privilege, not a right,” Murray said. “As long as there are individuals who disrespect tribal jurisdiction and sovereignty and treat our homeland as a place of lawlessness, then we have no choice but to draw a hard line on all nonmember permits.\u201d\r\n

<\/p>\r\nIn addition to hunting and fishing, the tribe’s action applies to swimming, camping and other recreational activities on the reservation, which spans more than 4.5 million acres in northeastern Utah<\/a>.\r\n
