The land is currently managed by the U.S. Forest Service<\/a> in northern California.\r\n <\/p>\r\n“It is really a physical and spiritual landmark for the tribe, central to their identity and ability to thrive and grow on their own ancestral lands,” said Rep. Doug LaMalfa<\/a> (R-California), the sponsor of H.2400. \r\n <\/p>\r\nA hearing on the bill took place before the House Subcommittee on Indian and Insular Affairs<\/a> on April 30, 2025<\/a>. Yatch Bamford, the chair of the Pit River Tribe, testified in support<\/a>.\r\n <\/p>\r\nThe House Committee on Natural Resources<\/a> approved the bill at a markup on July 23, 2025<\/a>.\r\n <\/p>\r\nFollowing consideration, the House passed H.R.2400 under a suspension of the rules.\r\n
