<\/p>\r\nThe Senate Committee on Indian Affairs<\/a> is heading to Alaska for a field hearing and listening session.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nThe committee will focus on declining salmon runs in the Yukon and Kuskokwim rivers<\/a>. Last year, a disaster was declared in the region<\/a> due to historically low numbers of fish that have sustained Native people in Alaska since time immemorial.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nSen. Lisa Murkowski<\/a> (R-Alaska), the vice chair of the committee, has been following the issue closely. She will lead the field hearing and listening session<\/a>, which are being hosted by the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation<\/a> at 700 Chief Eddie Hoffman Hwy in Bethel next Friday, November 10.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nDuring the hearing, the committee will take testimony from invited witnesses. Members of the public will be able to provide their own comments during the listening session.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nWritten comments can also be sent to the committee at testimony@indian.senate.gov.\r\n
