NAFOA IS SEEKING EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR<\/div>\r\nThe Executive Director serves as chief executive officer of the organization and is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nAll proposals\/applications should be submitted electronically at varene@nafoa.org before 5:00 p.m. PST on October 27, 2023. Any proposals\/applications received after this time will not be considered. A meeting with the Board Members of NAFOA will be scheduled for the week of November 6, 2023, and top candidates to present their proposals and discuss their applications. All proposing applicants will be notified once an applicant has been selected.\r\n

2. NAFOA INSTITUTE:<\/em><\/div>\r\n
GRANTS MANAGEMENT FOR TRIBAL ENTITIES OPEN FOR ENROLLMENT<\/div>\r\nThe Grants Management for Tribal Entities course<\/a> provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, practices, and strategies required to effectively manage grants within tribal communities. Designed for tribal leaders, administrators, grant managers, and individuals responsible for overseeing grant-funded projects, this course equips learners with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complexities of grant acquisition, administration, compliance, and reporting in a tribal context.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nThe course is offered through the University of New Mexico, Anderson School of Management. Access to the course opens on January 8, 2024.\r\n

3. NAFOA IN THE NEWS:<\/em><\/div>\r\n
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWNS CAUSE ECONOMIC DISTRESS FOR TRIBES<\/div>\r\nThe looming government shutdown is bad news for tribal communities around the country.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nBecause of the nation-to-nation relationship tribes have with the United States and the federal government\u2019s treaty responsibility, everything from police and fire departments to child care centers and food distribution programs in many parts of Indian Country are funded or operated by the federal government. \r\n

<\/p>\r\nDuring shutdowns, tribes are forced to float those services out of their own coffers. Or go without. \r\n

<\/p>\r\nSome tribes lose access to their revenue routed through the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs. But tribal leaders say it doesn\u2019t have to be that way. \r\n

<\/p>\r\nInterim Executive Director Susan Masten (Yurok Tribe) gives an interview to Marketplace radio program.\r\n
