But their oppressive treatment of the resident Native people fostered discontent. \r\n<p><\/p>\r\nIt all boiled over in 1763 as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Pontiac-Ottawa-chief\">Odawa Chief Pontiac<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pontiac_(Odawa_leader)\">Obwaandi\u2019eyaag<\/a>, formed an alliance among several tribes against the British occupation. Violence spread from the Great Lakes region to West Virginia.
