CPA and guest speaker Abraham Farani (Seminole Nation of Oklahoma) will discuss his journey from the classroom to the council room, sharing the many chapters of his experience. Moderator and Leadership Summit alumnus Bobby “Trae” Trousdale (Citizen Potawatomi Nation) will join Farani in discussing tips and skill sets needed to help usher in the next generation of Native financial leaders. \r\n

3. POLICY: <\/em><\/div>\r\n
TTAC 12TH PERIODIC PUBLIC MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 7<\/div>\r\nThe U.S. Department of the Treasury Tribal Advisory Committee (TTAC) will be convening its 12th public meeting on Thursday, September 7 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. ET. Register to attend either in person or virtually. Registration will close at 5:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, September 5th, 2023.\r\n

<\/P>\r\nThe meeting will be held in person at the Treasury building and is open to the public. If you are unable to attend the TTAC meeting in person, you may participate virtually. Chose the VIRTUAL option during the registration process.\r\n

<\/P>\r\nDuring this meeting, the TTAC will advise the Secretary of Treasury on issues related to Federal taxation and report on the work of the subcommittees on General Welfare Exclusion, Dual Taxation, and Tribal Pensions, along with other tax issues relating to Indians. 4. FUNDING OPPORTUNITY:<\/em><\/div>\r\n
TRANSMISSION SITING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT GRANTS PROGRAM<\/div>\r\nOn August 29, 2023, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced a funding opportunity of up to $300 million in grants to accelerate and strengthen electric transmission siting and permitting processes. Administered by DOE’s Grid Deployment Office, the Transmission Siting and Economic Development (TSED) grant program is a new initiative designed to overcome state and local challenges to expanding transmission capacity while also supporting communities along major new and upgraded lines.\r\n

<\/P>\r\nThrough this program, DOE will support two distinct categories of activities related to the development of new or upgraded interstate and offshore transmission lines: siting and permitting and economic development.\r\n

<\/P>\r\nDOE requires applicants to express an interest in applying for funds by submitting concept papers no later than October 31, 2023, at 5 p.m. ET. The Grid Deployment Office will be hosting a webinar on the TSED grant program on Thursday, September 14 at 2:00 p.m. ET\r\n

<\/P>\r\nFull applications will be due April 5, 2024, at 5 p.m. ET.\r\n

SAN MANUEL BAND OF MISSION INDIANS IS SEEKING STAFF ATTORNEY<\/div>\r\nUnder the direction of the VP Associate General Counsel, the Staff Attorney provides legal advice to the Tribal government, Tribal government operations and the Tribal government\u2019s business enterprises. \r\n

<\/P>\r\nThis position assists in counseling all levels of leadership in diverse issues related to transactions and contracting for the Tribal government, Tribal government operations and the Tribal government\u2019s business enterprises. The Staff Attorney provides recommendations to minimize legal and financial exposure.\r\n

<\/P>\r\n This position also assures best practices to address emerging legal and business issues related to the Tribal government, Tribal government operations and the Tribal government\u2019s business enterprises.\r\n
