Catawba Nation swears in new chief and new leadership<\/div>\r\n

<\/p>\r\nThe Catawba Nation<\/a> has a new leader for the first time in more than a decade.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nBrian Harris was sworn into office as chief of the South Carolina-based tribe on Saturday. He succeeds William \u201cBill\u201d Harris, who had led the Catawba people since 2011.\r\n

<\/P>\r\n“For me today is a start of a journey that has been long overdue,” the new chief said in a post on social media<\/a> following the inauguration ceremony at the tribal Longhouse. \r\n

<\/p>\r\n“We are going to do the right things, the right way, in a timely manner with results that our people can enjoy and be proud of,” said Harris. \r\n
