Photo courtesy National American Indian Housing Council<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\r\n<div class=\"h3-responsive font-weight-bold\">National American Indian Housing Council welcomes new executive director <\/div>\r\n<div class=\"date\">Thursday, April 20, 2023<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"source\">Indianz.Com<\/div>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThe <a href=\"https:\/\/naihc.net\/\">National American Indian Housing Council<\/a> (NAIHC), the largest inter-tribal housing organization, is welcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/chelsea-e-fish-8ba12245\/\">Chelsea E. Fish<\/a> as its new executive director.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nFish is a citizen of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sno-nsn.org\">Seminole Nation<\/a>. She comes to NAIHC with a wealth of experience in public and private service, having worked at the <a href=https:\/\/www.dol.gov>Department of Labor<\/a>, the <a href=https:\/\/www.ihs.gov\/>Indian Health Service<\/a>, the <a href=https:\/\/www.ncai.org>National Congress of American Indians<\/a>, the <a href=https:\/\/www.nativecontractors.org\/>Native American Contractors Association<\/a>, the <a href=https:\/\/www.ncuih.org>National Council of Urban Indian Health<\/a> and the <a href=https:\/\/indiangaming.org\/>Indian Gaming Association<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n\u201cOn behalf of the NAIHC board of directors and membership, we are delighted to have Chelsea Fish lead the NAIHC team as executive director,&#8221;  Chairman Thomas Lozano   said in a <a href=https:\/\/myemail.constantcontact.com\/Press-Release--Leading-Tribal-Housing-Organization-Welcomes-New-Executive-Director.html?soid=1102839656375&#038;aid=ysL_i0FR2mM>news release<\/a> on Wednesday.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8220;Chelsea has lived and worked in Washington, D.C., for many years and NAIHC is sure to benefit from her knowledge of the political landscape and long-established career in the Nation\u2019s Capital,\u201d added Lozano, who also serves on the council for the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriserancheria.org\">Enterprise Rancheria<\/a>, a federally recognized tribe based in California.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<div class=\" content_cards_card content_cards_domain_twitter-com\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"content_cards_image\">\n\t\t\t\t<a class=\"content_cards_image_link\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/naihc_national\/status\/1648031271862534144\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/17\/image-16.png\" alt=\"Post Not Found - X | 404 Error\">\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t<div class=\"content_cards_title\">\n\t\t<a class=\"content_cards_title_link\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/naihc_national\/status\/1648031271862534144\">\n\t\t\tPost Not Found &#8211; X | 404 Error\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"content_cards_description\">\n\t\t<a class=\"content_cards_description_link\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/naihc_national\/status\/1648031271862534144\">\n\t\t\t<p>The post you&#8217;re looking for could not be found or may have been deleted.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"content_cards_site_name\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/favicon.ico\" alt=\"X (formerly Twitter)\" class=\"content_cards_favicon\"\/>\t\tX (formerly Twitter)\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nFish began work on April 10, according to the   release. She succeeds Tony Walters, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation who served as executive director of NAIHC for six years.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n\u201cI\u2019m excited to join NAIHC to ensure we continue making an impact in securing adequate housing for all First Americans,\u201d said Fish. \u201cAs a tribal community, we empirically understand how our housing needs are holistic to our development as people. Inadequate housing has opened doors to many other socioeconomic concerns leaving a deep bruise on our citizens and weakening the ability of our youth to persevere.\u201d\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nLozano said NAIHC&#8217;s priorities include reauthorization of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hud.gov\/program_offices\/public_indian_housing\/ih\/codetalk\/nahasda\">Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act<\/a>, also known as NAHASDA. The <a href=https:\/\/www.indianz.com\/news\/2022\/02\/17\/national-american-indian-housing-council-hails-movement-on-nahasda\/>law expired in 2013<\/a> but   the U.S. Congress has failed to renew the law despite sustained efforts in Indian Country.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n\u201cGetting NAHASDA reauthorized is important to our membership and the many tribal citizens and families they serve plus it is long overdue. We are excited to continue NAIHC\u2019s valuable work with Chelsea,\u201d said Lozano.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n<div class=\"mt-1 mb-1\"><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8411603009680747\" data-ad-slot=\"6394965691\"><\/ins><script>(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/script><\/div>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nNAIHC is preparing for its <a href=https:\/\/naihc.net\/annual-convention\/>annual convention and tradeshow<\/a>. The event, held in partnership with tribal insurance provider <a href=https:\/\/amerind.com>AMERIND<\/a>, takes place May 8-11 in Waikaloa, Hawaii. \r\n<p><\/p>\r\nOver 700 tribal representatives are housing professionals are expected to attend the convention.
