Without experience, it can be difficult to know what\u2019s expected in the new role.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nBelow are key considerations for all Tribal council members\u2014new or experienced\u2014to keep in mind while working to serve their community.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<div><strong>Embrace the Tribal Council Role<\/strong><\/div>\r\nEvery Tribe defines the scope, authority, and responsibilities of the Tribal council differently, but there are generally four primary responsibilities.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<div><strong>Establish the Tribe\u2019s Strategic Framework<\/strong>\r\nTribal councils typically help shape the Tribe\u2019s strategic plan and select key strategic priorities for the Tribal government to focus on within the next one to five years.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<strong>Ensure Accountability<\/strong><\/div>\r\nTribal councils typically review reports, dashboards, and other data to ensure:\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Progress is being made toward strategic goals<\/li>\r\n<li>Services are provided to the community in an appropriate manner<\/li>\r\n<li>The Tribe\u2019s financial position is sustainable<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<a class=\"btn btn-primary btn-block\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mossadams.com\/articles\/2023\/03\/tribal-council-members-governance-concepts\" role=\"button\">Continue Reading<\/a>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<div class=\"h5-responsive sub\"><EM>3. COMMUNITY:<\/EM><\/div>\r\n<div class=\"h5-responsive sub\">DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY\u2019S OFFICE OF PARTNERSHIP AND ENGAGEMENT ADVISORS ON AMERICAN INDIAN AND ALASKA NATIVE CULTURES<\/div>\r\nThe Department of Homeland Security\u2019s (DHS) Office of Partnership and Engagement (OPE) seeks up to five (5) <a href=\"https:\/\/res.cloudinary.com\/nafoa\/image\/upload\/v1680881026\/Newsletter\/IPA_Tribal_Detail_2023.pdf\">Advisors on American Indian and Alaska Native Cultures<\/a> via the Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) Mobility Program.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nAn area of mutual concern and benefit to DHS and Tribes is the development of a mandatory base level tribal training course for DHS personnel, including full-time employees, part-time employees, and contractors, who have regular interactions with tribal members or are likely to encounter tribal members at their duty station.
