Native woman judge makes history in Michigan<\/div>\r\n

<\/p>\r\nA Native person will serve on one of the highest courts in Michigan for the first time in state history.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nAllie Greenleaf Maldonado, a citizen of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians<\/a>, will be the first Native person to serve on the the Michigan Court of Appeals<\/a>. The historic appointment was announced by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer<\/a> (D) on Tuesday.\r\n

<\/p>\r\n“I am humbled and honored to be trusted by Governor Whitmer for this appointment to the Michigan Court of Appeals,\u201d Maldonado said<\/a> in a news release.\r\n
