In a  press release on Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.knba.org\/koahnic-broadcast-corporation\">Koahnic Broadcast Corporation<\/a>, the Native media group that produces the show, said he is now on \r\n &#8220;permanent&#8221; status.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8220;Spruce is a naturally curious and engaging conversationalist with strong connections with Native communities all over the country,&#8221; Koahnic, which is based in Alaska, said in the release. &#8220;He was a frequent guest for many years on Native America Calling and made an impression as someone who could connect with audiences on a variety of issues. He is Athabascan from Alaska.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nAdditionally, Koahnic said <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/andimurphy\">Andi Murphy<\/a>, who hails from the Navajo Nation, has been promoted to senior producer for the show.  For Native America Calling, she has been hosting <a href=https:\/\/www.nativeamericacalling.com\/category\/features\/the-menu\/>The Menu<\/a>, which focuses on Native foods, Native cuisine and Native food sovereignty.\r\n<P><\/p>\r\nKoahnic began the search for a new host in July 2021, following the <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2021\/07\/27\/native-america-calling-bids-farewell-to-longtime-host\/>departure of Tara Gatewood<\/a>, who is Pueblo of Isleta and Navajo. A number of prominent Native figures, including <a href=https:\/\/alyssalondon.com\/>Alyssa London<\/a>, who now <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2022\/05\/17\/tlingit-entrepreneur-alyssa-london-lands-major-television-contributor-spot\/>works for NBC News and   MSNBC<\/a>,  hosted  episodes of the show before Spruce was named to the permanent spot.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nNative America Calling airs live every weekday at 1pm Eastern on nearly 70 public, community and tribal radio stations in the United States and in Canada.
