Jared Huffman, D-California),  the  Katimi\u00een and Ameeky\u00e1araam Sacred Lands Act. The bill transfers about 1,031 acres of federal land in northern California into trust for the <a href=https:\/\/www.karuk.us\/>Karuk Tribe<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8226; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/6964\">H.R. 6964<\/a> (Rep. Marilyn Strickland, D-Washington), a bill to authorize leases of up to 99 years for lands held in trust for the <a href=https:\/\/www.chehalistribe.org\/>Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation<\/a> in Washington state. Similar bills have been enacted for other tribal nations.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8226; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/7581\">H.R. 7581<\/a> [<a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/13\/HHRG-117-II24-20220914-SD002.pdf>Discussion Draft ANS to H.R. 7581<\/a>] (Rep. Jared Huffman, D-California),  the Yurok Lands Act of 2022. The <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/13\/HHRG-117-II24-20220914-SD002.pdf>draft discussion version<\/a> of the  bill requires the federal government to acquire about 1,229 acres in   the Yurok Experimental Forest and Six Rivers National Forest in northern California into trust for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yuroktribe.org\/\">Yurok Tribe<\/a>.  The bill also contains provisions regarding the co-management of such lands by the U.S. and the tribe.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8226; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/8115\">H.R. 8115<\/a> (Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-California), the Recreation and Public Purposes Tribal Parity Act. The bill ensures that <a href=https:\/\/www.feinstein.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/press-releases?ID=7B813F7E-9754-4B2D-A4A5-CF6C6CBB032C>tribal governments can participate in the purchase of public lands<\/a> through a program already available to state and local governments. The program is run by the  <a href=https:\/\/www.blm.gov\/>Bureau of Land Management<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8226; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/8286\">H.R. 8286 <\/a>(Rep. Derek Kilmer, D-Washington),  a bill to require the federal government to acquire about 1,082 acres in Washington state into trust for the <a href=https:\/\/www.elwha.org>Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8226; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/8380\">H.R. 8380<\/a> (Rep. Jes\u00fas G. \u201cChuy\u201d Garc\u00eda, D-Illinois), the  Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Shab-eh-nay Band Reservation Settlement Act of 2022. The bill settles a  land claim to 1,280 acres in the state of Illinois promised to the <a href=https:\/\/www.pbpindiantribe.com\/>Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation<\/a> by the <a href=https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Second_Treaty_of_Prairie_du_Chien>1829 Second Treaty of Prairie du Chien<\/a>.   The bill establishes a $10 million trust fund for the tribe and requires further negotiations to pay damages to the tribe for the land that was sold by the federal government. \r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8226; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/8387\">H.R. 8387<\/a> (Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Washington), the Parity for Tribal Law Enforcement Act.  The bill makes it easier for tribal governments to <a href=https:\/\/newhouse.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/newhouse-introduces-legislation-support-tribal-law-enforcement-protect>authorize their officers to  enforce federal law<\/a>.
