Photo: Navajo Nation Office of President and Vice President<\/figcaption>\r\n<div class=\"h3-responsive font-weight-bold\">Indian Health Service nominee up for business meeting<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"date\">Tuesday, July 12, 2022<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"source\">Indianz.Com<\/div>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nPresident Joe Biden&#8217;s nominee to lead the <a href=https:\/\/www.ihs.gov\/>Indian Health Service<\/a> is slowly but surely moving through the confirmation process in the <a href=https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/>U.S. Senate<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThe <a href=https:\/\/www.indian.senate.gov\/>Senate Committee on Indian Affairs<\/a> is due to consider the nomination of <a href=https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/nomination\/117th-congress\/1840>Roselyn Tso<\/a>  at a <a href=https:\/\/www.indian.senate.gov\/hearing\/business-meeting-consider-roselyn-tso-be-director-indian-health-service>business meeting on Wednesday<\/a>. She has worked for the IHS since 1984, most recently serving as director of the <a href=https:\/\/www.ihs.gov\/navajo\/>region that serves her tribe<\/a> in the states of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n\u201cThrough her leadership, the Navajo Nation achieved one of the highest vaccination rates in the world,\u201d President Jonathan Nez said in crediting Tso with helping address the  disproportionate affects on the <a href=\/covid19\/>COVID-19 pandemic<\/a> on the largest reservation in the United States.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nTso was nominated by Biden on March 9. If confirmed by the Senate, she   would be the first permanent director of the IHS in more than two years.  \r\n<P><\/P><div class=\"mt-1 mb-1\"><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8411603009680747\" data-ad-slot=\"6394965691\"><\/ins><script>(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/script><\/div><p><\/p>\r\nThe IHS has gone without a permanent leader for six of the last seven years, including for most of the Donald Trump administration. The agency is part of the <a href=https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/>Department of Health and Human Services<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThe business meeting takes place at 2:30pm Eastern on Wednesday.
