The legislation addresses<\/a> a long-standing issue tied to the restoration of federal recognition to the tribe, whose status had been terminated by the U.S. government. A hearing took place on February 16<\/a>.\r\n

<\/p>\r\n• S.3273<\/a>, the Agua Caliente Land Exchange Fee to Trust Confirmation Act. The bill places about 2,560 acres into trust for the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians<\/a>. The lands, currently managed by the Bureau of Land Management<\/a>, are of cultural and historical importance to the tribe, located in southern California. A hearing took place on February 16<\/a>.\r\n

<\/p>\r\n• H.R.1975<\/a>, Pala Band of Mission Indians Land Transfer Act of 2021. The bill places about 721 acres into trust for the Pala Band of Mission Indians<\/a>. The land is located around Gregory Canyon<\/a>, a sacred area in San Diego County in California that was once slated for development before the tribe started a campaign to preserve it. \r\nA hearing took place on November 19, 2021<\/a>. H.R.1975 passed the U.S. House of Representatives<\/a> on November 2, 2021, following consideration on November 1<\/a>. \r\n

<\/P>\r\n• H.R.4881<\/a>, Old Pascua Community Land Acquisition Act. The bill places land into trust for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe<\/a> and declares it to be part of the tribe\u2019s reservation. The land is located in Tucson, Arizona, and will be eligible for gaming purposes. A hearing took place on November 19, 2021<\/a>. The House passed H.R. 4881 on November 2 following consideration on November 1<\/a>.\r\n
