The action came on the <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2021\/12\/17\/no-one-else-needs-to-die-biden-administration-faces-another-test-of-commitment-to-indian-country\/>last day of a deadline imposed<\/a> by a federal appeals court.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n\u201cBig victory for the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and all Tribes that are signatories to the Fort Laramie Treaty.\u201d\r\n  <a href=https:\/\/twitter.com\/TQPurdon\/status\/1473023976574226434>attorney Tim Purdon said in a post<\/a> on social media.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Brendan_SD?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Brendan_SD<\/a> and I were just told by DOJ that the United States will NOT seek rehearing of the 8th Circuit&#39;s decision here.<br><br>Big victory for the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and all Tribes that are signatories to the Fort Laramie Treaty. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/px7GlqyTm6\">https:\/\/t.co\/px7GlqyTm6<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Tim Purdon (@TQPurdon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TQPurdon\/status\/1473023976574226434?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 20, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nOn August 25, the <a href=https:\/\/www.ca8.uscourts.gov\/>8th Circuit Court of Appeals<\/a> ruled that the <a href=https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Treaty_of_Fort_Laramie_(1868)>1868 Treaty of Fort Laramie<\/a> requires the federal government to provide \u201ccompetent physician-led healthcare\u201d to the Sioux Nation and its people, many of whom often suffer from substandard services on their homelands. The <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/14\/202062P.pdf>historic decision<\/a> is the law of the land for the tribal signatories now that the Biden administration has accepted it.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n\u201cThis is a momentous victory for our Tribal relatives,\u201d said  <a href=https:\/\/twitter.com\/Brendan_SD\/status\/1473029669805084677>attorney Brendan Johnson<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">DOJ is no longer appealing our Rosebud Treaty Case.<br><br>That means healthcare is a Treaty Right for all signatories of the Fort Laramie Treaty. <br><br>This is a momentous victory for our Tribal relatives. The firm is representing the tribe for free, on a pro bono basis, Johnson pointed out in his post.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nPurdon and Johnson   previously served as U.S. Attorneys during the Barack Obama administration.
