Bureau: <a href=https:\/\/youtu.be\/BHdYvDICpiw>Jacob Chansley &#8216;QAnon Shaman&#8217; Sentenced<\/a>\r\n<\/figcaption>\r\n<div class=\"h3-responsive font-weight-bold\">\u2018Q-Shaman,\u2019 face of the January 6 Capitol attack, sentenced to 41 months<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"date\">Monday, November 22, 2021<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"byline\">By Diannie Chavez<\/div>\r\n<DIV class=source>Cronkite News<\/DIV>\r\n<DIV class=source-website><A \r\nhref=\"https:\/\/cronkitenews.azpbs.org\/\">cronkitenews.azpbs.org<\/A><\/DIV>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nWASHINGTON, D.C.  &#8212; A contrite Jacob Anthony Chansley, the self-described &#8220;QAnon Shaman&#8221; who became the face of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, was sentenced last Wednesday to 41 months in prison for his role in the assault.<p><\/p>\r\nChansley, who pleaded guilty to one count of obstructing an official proceeding, told U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth that he accepts his guilt but that he is a changed man who would &#8220;try with all of my heart and soul to stop people&#8221; if the assault occurred today.<p><\/p>\r\nBut Lamberth said that while he believed the Arizona man&#8217;s remorse was genuine, what he did was &#8220;horrific&#8221; by making himself the &#8220;epitome of the riot.&#8221;<p><\/p>\r\n&#8220;You didn\u2019t slug anybody, but what you did here was actually obstruct the functioning of the whole government,&#8221; Lamberth said. &#8220;You know what you did was wrong.&#8221;<p><\/p>\r\n<div class=\"infogram-embed\" data-id=\"72636e02-c2b6-4ee9-a048-2496d8b8aa98\" data-type=\"interactive\" data-title=\"Arizona Seven\"><\/div><script>!function(e,i,n,s){var t=\"InfogramEmbeds\",d=e.getElementsByTagName(\"script\")[0];if(window[t]&&window[t].initialized)window[t].process&&window[t].process();else if(!e.getElementById(n)){var o=e.createElement(\"script\");o.async=1,o.id=n,o.src=\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed-loader-min.js\",d.parentNode.insertBefore(o,d)}}(document,0,\"infogram-async\");<\/script>\r\n<figcaption class=\"figure-caption\">Infogram by Cronkite News: <a href=https:\/\/infogram.com\/arizona-seven-1h7j4dv78myx94n>Arizona&#8217;s January  6 defendants<\/a>\r\n<\/figcaption>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nChansley was among the first 30 rioters to breach the Capitol on January 6 and is easily recognized in videos and photographs from that day that show him in facepaint, a spear in his hand and a horned bearskin headdress on his head.<p><\/p>\r\nHe is one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/capitol-breach-cases\">more than 600<\/a> people, seven from Arizona, who have been arrested in connection with the January  6 insurrection that chased then-Vice President Mike Pence and members of Congress from the House chamber, halting their attempt to certify the Electoral College vote that made Joe Biden president.<p><\/p>\r\nThat assault followed a rally by then-President Donald Trump who urged his supporters to march on the Capitol and stop the certification. Thousands marched and hundreds breached a lightly protected Capitol, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/ten-months-jan-6-attack-capitol\">injuring hundreds<\/a> of police and protesters in the hours that followed. Five people died that day and several police officers later committed suicide.<p><\/p>\r\nAccording to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/case-multi-defendant\/file\/1364486\/download\">court documents,<\/a> Chansley made his way to the Senate floor and scrawled a note on the dais that read: &#8220;It&#8217;s only a matter of time justice is coming!&#8221; He then led a group in a prayer over a bullhorn, saying, &#8220;Thank you for allowing us to get rid of the communists, the globalists, and the traitors within our government.&#8221;<p><\/p>\r\nBut during his address to the court Wednesday, Chansley claimed he is &#8220;not an insurrectionist&#8221; and is simply a &#8220;good man who broke the law.&#8221;<p><\/p>\r\n<div class=\"embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9\">\r\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0HER29R2Tio?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<figcaption class=\"figure-caption\"> &#8216;The coyote is like the trickster&#8217;: <a href=https:\/\/youtu.be\/0HER29R2Tio> ORF Interview with Jake Angeli aka QAnon Shaman aka Jacob Anthony Chansley<\/a>\r\n<\/figcaption>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nOf the 35 sentenced so far, Chansley has received one of the longest sentences. The only other defendant to get 41 months was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/defendants\/fairlamb-scott-kevin\">Scott Fairlamb,<\/a> a New Jersey man who assaulted an officer during the insurrection.<p><\/p>\r\nChansley&#8217;s attorney pointed out Wednesday that his client did not participate in violence like many others.<p><\/p>\r\n&#8220;You cannot characterize every January 6 defendant based on, and labeled under, one monitor,&#8221; said Albert Watkins, the attorney. &#8220;Not all of those who participated in January 6 are the same.&#8221;<p><\/p>\r\nThat was echoed by Chansley in his comments to Lamberth before he was sentenced.<p><\/p>\r\n&#8220;I may be guilty of this crime \u2026 but I am in no way, shape or form a dangerous criminal,&#8221; Chansley said. &#8220;And It&#8217;s hard to grow to our full potential when we&#8217;re judged on one mistake.&#8221;<p><\/p>\r\nDuring his 30-minute address in court, Chansley said his time in solitary confinement has allowed him to reflect on his life and actions and said he accepts responsibility and is remorseful of his participation in the attack.<p><\/p>\r\n&#8220;In retrospect, I would do everything differently on January 6, everything,&#8221; Chansley said. &#8220;With all honesty, I would try with all of my heart and soul to stop people.&#8221;<p><\/p>\r\n<div class=row><div class=col-6><a href=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2021\/11\/22\/cronkite-news-qanon-shaman-sentenced-for-role-in-attack-on-u-s-capitol\/chansley-sentenced\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18444\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"635\" height=\"800\" data-attachment-id=\"18444\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2021\/11\/22\/cronkite-news-qanon-shaman-sentenced-for-role-in-attack-on-u-s-capitol\/chansley-sentenced\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/23\/jacobanthonychansley.jpg\" data-orig-size=\"635,800\" data-comments-opened=\"0\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;Alexandria&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;Jacob Chansley without the facepaint and horned fur hat that made him the most recognizable face of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Photo courtesy Alexandria, Virginia, Sheriff&#8217;s Office<\/figcaption><\/div><\/div>\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nChansley pointed to previously undiagnosed mental health issues that his time in solitary confinement exacerbated, and now just wants to move on.<p><\/p>\r\n&#8220;They say every sinner has a past, and every sinner has a future,&#8221; Chansley said. &#8220;Well that&#8217;s certainly true. I want to grow past what I was.<p><\/p>\r\n&#8220;I just want the trauma to stop, I want to heal,&#8221; he added. &#8220;I want to grow beyond the symptoms. I want to be more than I was.&#8221;<p><\/p>\r\nBut that remorse was not enough to prevent the sentence Lamberth imposed because &#8220;for good or bad, he (Chansley) made himself the very image&#8221; of the attack, Lamberth said.<p><\/p>\r\nAlong with the 41-month sentence, Chansley will also have to pay $2,000 in restitution and was sentenced to 36 months of supervised release, during which he will have to undergo drug testing and a mental health treatment.<p><\/p>\r\nHe will get credit for the 317 days he has already served in jail, leaving about 2.5 years remaining on his sentence and a projected 2024 release date.<p><\/p><div class=\"mt-1 mb-1\"><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8411603009680747\" data-ad-slot=\"6394965691\"><\/ins><script>(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/script><\/div><p><\/p>\r\nChansley originally faced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/page\/file\/1352916\/download\">six counts,<\/a> including civil disorder and violent entry and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building.
