<\/p>\r\nThe bill authorizes the tribe to lease or transfer certain lands in Florida without running afoul of the Indian Nonintercourse Act<\/a>. The colonial-era law otherwise requires Congressional approval for every single land transaction.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nSimilar measures have been enacted for other Indian nations in the past.\r\n

<\/P>\r\nFollowing consideration of the bill, a Republican member of the House requested a recorded vote on S.108. As a result, further proceedings were postponed.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nHowever, it is expected that the measure will pass as soon as November 2, according to the Majority Leader<\/a>, or sometime during the week.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nThe U.S. Senate<\/a> already approved S.108 so all that’s needed is passage in the House for the bill to be sent to President Joe Biden for his signature.\r\n
