They are all being considered under a suspension of the rules, a process typically used for bills that are considered non-controversial and for those with broad, bipartisan support.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThe bills are:\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<div class=mx-4>\r\n&#8226; <a href=https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/1619>H.R.1619<\/a>, the Catawba Indian Nation Lands Act. The bill affirms the acquisition of 17 acres  in North Carolina into trust for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catawba.com\">Catawba Nation<\/a> and ensures that those lands can be used for gaming purposes.  The bill was approved by the <a href=https:\/\/naturalresources.house.gov\/>House Committee on Natural Resources<\/a> during a <a href=https:\/\/naturalresources.house.gov\/hearings\/remote-full-committee-markup_--52621>markup on May 26<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8226; <a href=https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/2758>H.R.2758<\/a>, the Lumbee Recognition Act. The bill extends federal recognition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lumbeetribe.com\">Lumbee Tribe<\/a>, headquartered in North Carolina. The Lumbees are  currently <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indian_termination_policy\">subject to a termination-era law<\/a> that prohibits them from receiving federal services extended to other Indian nations. A <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2020\/11\/16\/lumbee-tribe-sees-progress-on-federal-recognition-bill\/>prior version of the bill<\/a>  passed the House during the 116th Congress but did not advance in the <a href=https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/>U.S. Senate<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8226; <a href=https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/1975>H.R.1975<\/a>, the Pala Band of Mission Indians Land Transfer Act. The bill places land in  California  into trust for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.palatribe.com\">Pala Band of Mission Indians<\/a>. The bill amends the <a href=https:\/\/www.ihs.gov\/ihcia\/>Indian Health Care Improvement Act<\/a> to require  the <a href=https:\/\/www.ihs.gov\/>Indian Health Service<\/a> and other agencies  within  the <a href=https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/>Department of Health and Human Services<\/a> to &#8220;confer, to the maximum extent practicable, with urban Indian organizations.&#8221; \r\n<p><\/p>\r\nA hearing  on H.R.5221 took place before the <a href=https:\/\/naturalresources.house.gov\/subcommittees\/subcommittee-for-indigenous-peoples-of-the-united-states>House  Subcommittee for Indigenous Peoples of the United States<\/a> on <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2021\/10\/07\/house-subcommittee-for-indigenous-peoples-of-the-united-states-legislative-hearing-4\/>October 5<\/a>. The bill was approved by the <a href=https:\/\/naturalresources.house.gov\/>House Committee on Natural Resources<\/a> during a <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/indianz\/sets\/house-committee-on-natural-resources-markup-october-13-2021\">markup on October 13<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8226; <a href=https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/108>S.108<\/a>, a bill to authorize the <a href=https:\/\/www.semtribe.com\/stof>Seminole Tribe<\/a>  to lease or transfer certain lands in Florida without running afoul of the <a href=https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nonintercourse_Act>Indian Nonintercourse Act<\/a>. Similar measures have been enacted for other Indian nations.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8226; <a href=https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/4881>H.R.4881<\/a>, the Old Pascua Community Land Acquisition Act. The bill places land into trust for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pascuayaqui-nsn.gov\">Pascua Yaqui Tribe<\/a> and declares it to be part of the tribe\u2019s reservation. The land is located in Tucson, Arizona, and will be eligible for gaming purposes. \r\n<p><\/p>\r\nA hearing on H.R.4881 took  place before the <a href=https:\/\/naturalresources.house.gov\/subcommittees\/subcommittee-for-indigenous-peoples-of-the-united-states>House  Subcommittee for Indigenous Peoples of the United States<\/a> on <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2021\/10\/07\/house-subcommittee-for-indigenous-peoples-of-the-united-states-legislative-hearing-4\/>October 5<\/a>.  The bill was approved by the <a href=https:\/\/naturalresources.house.gov\/>House Committee on Natural Resources<\/a> during a  <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/indianz\/sets\/house-committee-on-natural-resources-markup-october-13-2021\">markup on October 13<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8226; <a href=https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/2088>H.R.2088<\/a>, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Historic Lands Reacquisition Act. The bill places about 76  acres in Tennessee into trust for the <a href=\"https:\/\/ebci.com\">Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians<\/a>. The lands included  significant cultural and historic properties that are currently managed by the federal government. \r\n<P><\/P>\r\nH.R.2088  was approved by the <a href=https:\/\/naturalresources.house.gov\/>House Committee on Natural Resources<\/a> during a <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/indianz\/sets\/house-committee-on-natural-resources-markup-october-13-2021\">markup on October 13<\/a>.
