<\/p>\r\nH.R.504 adds an area known as the Osceola Camp<\/a> to the reservation of the Miccosukee Tribe<\/a>. The land is located the Everglades National Park<\/a> in Florida.\r\n <\/p>\r\n“This bipartisan legislation ensures that the Miccosukee Tribe has the legal authority \r\nto manage, protect, and preserve their land and continue their \r\ntraditional way of life,” said Rep. Carlos Gimenez<\/a> (R-Florida), the sponsor of H.R.504.\r\n <\/p>\r\n“Specifically, the bill amends the Miccosukee Reserved Area Act to \r\ninclude the Osceola Camp, an inhabited Tribal village located within \r\nthe heart of Florida’s Everglades,” Gimenez said on the House floor. “The Osceola Camp is not only home to Tribal members, but it is also a site of historical and cultural \r\nimportance.”\r\n <\/p>\r\n“Including this land in the reserved area will empower the Tribe to \r\nprotect their community, manage water flow into the Everglades National \r\nPark, and raise structures within the camp to prevent catastrophic \r\nflooding,” Gimenez added.\r\n <\/p>\r\nFollowing consideration, the House approved H.R.504 under a suspension of the rules.\r\n <\/p>\r\nThe bill would still need to be considered by the U.S. Senate<\/a> before it can become law.\r\n <\/p>\r\n \ud83d\udea8 My bipartisan bill, H.R. 504 – the Miccosukee Reserved Area Amendments Act – has PASSED the House!
