1. POLICY ALERT:<\/em><\/div>\r\n
Tribal Tax and Investment Reform Act Introduced in Senate, Aims to Establish Parity for Tribal Governments<\/div>\r\nOn Wednesday, June 11th, Senators Cortez Masto (D-NV) and Murkowski (R-AK) introduced bipartisan legislation that would correct longstanding inequities in the U.S. tax code and allow for Tribes and Alaska Native Corporations (ANC) to access previously unavailable tax-free funding sources. The bill, fully titled \u201cTribal Tax and Investment Reform Act of 2025,\u201d has been a priority for Indian Country and would help ensure a level playing field for Tribal businesses and economies. [S.2022<\/a>]\r\n

<\/P>\r\nNAFOA Board President Rodney Butler, Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, commented on the bill\u2019s introduction:\r\n

\r\nThe introduction of the Tribal Tax and Investment Reform Act in the Senate is a necessary and overdue effort to modernize the federal tax code in recognition of Tribal sovereignty. The bill reflects decades of Tribal efforts to secure tax parity. It guarantees Tribal governments have equitable access to financial tools, including tax credits and housing incentives, needed to build strong self-determined economies. NAFOA commends the bipartisan leadership behind the legislation, especially Senators Cortez Masto and Murkowski. We urge Congress to act swiftly to ensure that Indian Country is fully included in the nation\u2019s tax and investment framework.<\/em>\r\n<\/div>\r\n

2. SURVEY:<\/em><\/div>\r\n
Treasury Requests Information on Impact of Move to Electronic-Only Payments by June 30, 2025<\/div>\r\nThe U.S. Department of the Treasury is seeking public comments on Executive Order 14247<\/a>, “Modernizing Payments To and From America’s Bank Account,” which will eliminate all federal paper checks by September 30, 2025. This transition to mandatory electronic payments will significantly impact Tribal citizens who receive federal benefits, payments, and services.\r\n
