She has worked at Native America Calling for 16 years, starting off as an associate producer back in 2005. The program is owned by <a href=\"https:\/\/koahnicbroadcast.org\">Koahnic Broadcast Corp.<\/a>, an Alaska Native nonprofit.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n\u201cKoahnic is deeply grateful for Tara\u2019s years of work at Native America Calling,\u201d     Koahnic CEO  Jaclyn Sallee said in a news release on Monday. \u201cHer talent and expertise has been invaluable in creating this unique and meaningful program, and our nation is a better place because of the issues raised and discussed by Tara.\u201d \r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/users\/16960762&amp;color=%23ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=true&amp;show_comments=false&amp;show_user=false&amp;show_reposts=false&amp;show_teaser=false&amp;visual=true\" width=\"100%\" height=\"300\" frameborder=\"no\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\r\n<figcaption class=\"figure-caption\">Native America Calling airs live every weekday at 1pm Eastern on nearly 70 public, community and tribal radio stations in the United States and in Canada. The <a href=https:\/\/nativeamericacalling.com\/friday-july-30-2021-a-big-thank-you-from-tara-gatewood\/>farewell episode is described<\/a> as a \u201cbig Thank You\u201d from the award-winning Native journalist, who hails from the <a href=https:\/\/www.isletapueblo.com\/>Pueblo of Isleta<\/a> as well as the <a href=https:\/\/www.navajo-nsn.gov\/>Navajo Nation<\/a>.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n\u201cFor nearly 16 years she has worked diligently with a full heart to help uplift the voices of our Native nations through our Indigenous airwaves,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/nativeamericacalling.com\/friday-july-30-2021-a-big-thank-you-from-tara-gatewood\/\">show description<\/a> reads. \u201cHer work has helped open up more understanding of who we are as Native people and the strong foundations that we come from and the issues we face.\u201d\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nGatewood&#8217;s departure means Koahnic Broadcast Corp., the owner of Native America Calling, will be  launching a search for a new host. In the meantime, <a href=https:\/\/www.nativenews.net\/>National Native News<\/a> anchor and producer Antonia Gonzales and <a href=https:\/\/www.knba.org\/>KNBA radio<\/a> news director Tripp Crouse are set to fill in, the Alaska Native firm said in its news release. She will be leading up a new project that is focused on missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, whose stories often go unheard and misreported in the mainstream media.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n\u201cIt\u2019s a joy for us to welcome one of our own fellows to lead this groundbreaking position at our organization,\u201d  IWMF  Executive Director  Elisa Lees Mu\u00f1oz said in an <a href=https:\/\/www.iwmf.org\/2021\/07\/iwmf-hires-kbc-broadcast-host-tara-gatewood\/>announcement on Tuesday<\/a>. \u201cTara\u2019s experience crafting nuanced storytelling, combined with her work in news media, will bring a unique strength and sensibility to our offerings and growing work in the United States.\u201d\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nGatewood, who has worked in print, radio and online media,  is the recipient of  numerous awards,  including those from the <a href=https:\/\/najanewsroom.com\/>Native American Journalists Association<\/a>, the <a href=https:\/\/www.ncaied.org\/>National Center for American Enterprise Development<\/a>  and the <a href=http:\/\/miaclab.org\/>Museum of Indian Arts and Culture<\/a>. Gatewood will take the role of director, heading up a new initiative to draw attention to violence against Native American women across the country. In addition, the show intends to bring in guest hosts until a permanent replacement is hired. \r\n<p><\/p>\r\nAdditional changes at Koahnic Broadcast Corp. bring the departure of Native America Calling Senior Producer Monica Braine (Assiniboine\/Hunkpapa Lakota), who recently took a new position working with Native-owned AMERIND.
