The committee, however, was still able to advance the nomination of Bryan Newland to be Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs. The legislative hearing will take place July 21.<\/strong>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThe <a href=https:\/\/www.indian.senate.gov\/>Senate Committee on Indian Affairs<\/a> is getting back to work following the July 4 holiday.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThe committee meets on Wednesday afternoon for a <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2021\/07\/14\/senate-committee-set-to-advance-bryan-newland-as-assistant-secretary-for-indian-affairs\/>business meeting to advance the nomination of Bryan Newland<\/a> to serve as the Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs in the Joe Biden administration. A legislative hearing takes place immediately afterward.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nThree bills are on the agenda for the hearing. They follow:\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<div class=mx-4>\r\n&#8226; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/1797\">S.1797<\/a>, the Urban Indian Health Providers Facilities Improvement Act. The bill ensures that <a href=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2021\/05\/25\/bipartisan-bill-brings-long-overdue-boost-to-urban-indian-health-providers\/\">urban Indian providers across the nation can use existing resources<\/a> for renovation, construction  and expansions of their facilities. \r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8226; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/1895\">S.1895<\/a>, the Indian Health Service Sanitation Facilities Construction Enhancement Act. The bill  authorizes $3 billion for the <a href=https:\/\/www.ihs.gov\/>Indian Health Service<\/a> to meet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lujan.senate.gov\/press-releases\/lujan-heinrich-sinema-introduce-legislation-to-support-water-and-wastewater-infrastructure-projects-in-tribal-communities\/\">water and wastewater infrastructure needs in tribal communities<\/a>. \r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8226; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/1688\">H.R.1688<\/a>, the Native American Child Protection Act. The bill  updates the <a href=https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/25\/chapter-34>Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act<\/a>, which first became law in 1990 to help tribes and the federal government address child abuse in Indian Country amid <a href=https:\/\/www.indian.senate.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/upload\/files\/March152006.pdf>reports of widespread victimization<\/a>.
