{"id":129973,"date":"2025-03-27T09:42:26","date_gmt":"2025-03-27T14:42:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/?p=129973"},"modified":"2025-03-27T09:50:10","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T14:50:10","slug":"fact-sheet-department-of-health-and-human-services-to-undergo-dramatic-restructuring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2025\/03\/27\/fact-sheet-department-of-health-and-human-services-to-undergo-dramatic-restructuring\/","title":{"rendered":"Fact Sheet:  Department of Health and Human Services to undergo &#8216;dramatic restructuring&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9\">\r\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/O8qQxLYTyV8?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<figcaption class=\"figure-caption\">Department of Health and Human Services: <a href=https:\/\/youtu.be\/O8qQxLYTyV8>HHS Announces Transformation to Make America Healthy Again<\/a>\r\n<\/figcaption>\r\n<div class=\"h3-responsive font-weight-bold\">Fact Sheet: HHS\u2019 Transformation to Make America Healthy Again<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"date\">Thursday, March 27, 2025<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"source\">Indianz.Com<\/div>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<em>The following is the text of a March 27, 2025, fact sheet from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/\">Department of Health and Human Services<\/a>.<\/em>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThe restructuring of HHS is proceeding in accordance with President Trump&#8217;s Executive Order, &#8220;Implementing the President\u2019s \u2018Department of Government Efficiency\u2019 Workforce Optimization Initiative.\u201d Over the past four years, during the Biden administration, HHS\u2019s budget increased by 38% and its staffing increased by 17%.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>The plan combines personnel cuts, centralization of functions, and consolidation of HHS divisions, including:\r\n<ul type=\"disc\">\r\n \t<li>The current 82,000 full-time employees will be reduced to 62,000<\/li>\r\n \t<li>28 divisions will be consolidated to 15<\/li>\r\n \t<li>10 regional offices will become 5<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Human Resources, Information Technology, Procurement, External Affairs, and Policy will be centralized.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Regarding FDA, CDC, NIH, and CMS:\r\n<ul type=\"disc\">\r\n \t<li>FDA will decrease its workforce by approximately 3,500 full-time employees, with a focus on streamlining operations and centralizing administrative functions. This reduction will not affect drug, medical device, or food reviewers, nor will it impact inspectors.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>The CDC will decrease its workforce by approximately 2,400 employees, with a focus on returning to its core mission of preparing for and responding to epidemics and outbreaks. This includes moving ASPR under CDC to enhance coordination of response efforts. NOTE: The \u201cCDC\u201d decrease would only be 1,400 if you included the individuals coming over from ASPR (approx. 1,000 individuals).<\/li>\r\n \t<li>The NIH will decrease its workforce by approximately 1,200 employees by centralizing procurement, human resources, and communications across its 27 institutes and centers.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>CMS will decrease its workforce by approximately 300 employees, with a focus on reducing minor duplication across the agency. This reorganization will not impact Medicare and Medicaid services.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>The consolidation and cuts are designed not only to save money, but to make the organization more efficient and more responsive to Americans\u2019 needs, and to implement the Make America Healthy Again goal of ending the chronic disease epidemic.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>No additional cuts are currently planned, but the Department will continue to look for further ways to streamline its operations and agencies.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>A new Administration for a Healthy America (AHA) will consolidate the OASH, HRSA, SAMHSA, ATSDR, and NIOSH, so as to more efficiently coordinate chronic care and disease prevention programs and harmonize health resources to low-income Americans.
