MSU photo by Colter Peterson<\/figcaption>\r\n<div class=\"h3-responsive font-weight-bold\">Montana State University to host 49th annual American Indian Council Powwow on March 28-29<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"date\">Tuesday, March 18, 2025<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"source\">MSU News Service<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"source-links\"><A \r\nhref=\"https:\/\/www.montana.edu\/news\/\">montana.edu\/news<\/A><\/div>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>BOZEMAN \u2013 The 49th annual American Indian Council Powwow at Montana State University will be held March 28-29 at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\r\n<p>The powwow is one of the largest in the state and will begin with a grand entry at 5 p.m. Friday, March 28. Grand entries also are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 29.<\/p>\r\n<p>A prominent aspect of this year\u2019s event will be to honor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montana.edu\/news\/mountainsandminds\/21695\/walter-fleming\">Walter Fleming<\/a>, professor and head of MSU\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montana.edu\/nativeamerican\/\">Department of Native American Studies<\/a>, who has taught at the university since 1979. The special recognition will take place after the grand entry on Friday evening.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u201cDr. Fleming has had a storied, illustrious career serving MSU and generations of students,\u201d said MSU\u2019s <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.montana.edu\/nativeamerican\/\" >American Indian Council<\/a> co-advisers Lisa Perry and Nicholas Ross-Dick in a written statement. \u201cThe AIC is excited to present him to family, friends, colleagues and past and present students in the way the dance circle can \u2013 full of energy, life and celebration.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"fb-post\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/americanindiancouncilofmsu\/posts\/pfbid0KjJAw2CyjDbminAjfvJejvCuEtaeoPZTGWNh8FqRom5ZyaCSmXYy4JLgGWuF3cfKl\" data-width=\"500\" data-show-text=\"true\"><blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/americanindiancouncilofmsu\/posts\/952339600368576\" class=\"fb-xfbml-parse-ignore\"><p>Headwoman Dancer, Ella Wetsit and Headman Dancer, Ryan OldCrow taking time to share about their culture and dance styles!<\/p>Posted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/americanindiancouncilofmsu\">MSU American Indian Council<\/a> on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/americanindiancouncilofmsu\/posts\/952339600368576\">Thursday, March 13, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><\/div>\r\n<P><\/p>\r\n<p>Other highlights of the two-day celebration, built on the theme of \u201cEmpowering Each Other,\u201d include a royalty pageant, sale of limited-edition merchandise, alumni brunch and basketball tournament.<\/p>\r\n<p>The host drum group will be the Southern Cree from Rocky Boy. The head woman dancer is Ella Wetsit of Tumwater, Washington, and the head man dancer is Ryan Old Crow of Hardin. Miss Indian MSU is Kelsey Mad Plume of Browning.<\/p>\r\n<p>Masters of ceremonies are Don Racine and Chico Her Many Horses; arena directors are Walter Runs Above and Dean Don\u2019t Mix; head singing judge is Antoine Paul; and head dancing judge is Jordynn Paz.
