It was a cold windy day, but there were many Native women in attendance, representing many from tribes in the west and southwest.\u00a0 They stood in solidarity in their traditional Plains-style ribbon skirts and at different points in the gathering did the traditional Lakota tremelo.\u00a0 \r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThat distinctive Lakota women\u2019s tremolo that is produced through a wavering effect that once turned the head of a president of the U.S. Some musical instruments like an organ or an electric guitar can produce that effect.\u00a0\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<div class=\" content_cards_card content_cards_domain_www-facebook-com\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"content_cards_image\">\n\t\t\t\t<a class=\"content_cards_image_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NativeSistersCircle\/posts\/1089594838231637\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/05\/urlhttps-indiancountrytoday.com_.image-t_share-mtgwodi3mjkyote2otgzmtq0-fb_img_1620238509663.png\" alt=\"Native Sisters Circle\">\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t<div class=\"content_cards_title\">\n\t\t<a class=\"content_cards_title_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NativeSistersCircle\/posts\/1089594838231637\">\n\t\t\tNative Sisters Circle\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"content_cards_description\">\n\t\t<a class=\"content_cards_description_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NativeSistersCircle\/posts\/1089594838231637\">\n\t\t\t<p>These spaces are so important to our community, it offers education, awareness, and most importantly healing for us. \u201cLeaders from the Indigenous community, families of victims, domestic violence&#8230;<\/p>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"content_cards_site_name\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/rsrc.php\/y1\/r\/ay1hV6OlegS.ico\" alt=\"www.facebook.com\" class=\"content_cards_favicon\"\/>\t\twww.facebook.com\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n But, it is distinctly Lakota.\u00a0\u00a0 It has a whole story behind it; things we Lakota are not so quick to share because of the \u201cpan-Indian\u201d taking of our traditions.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThe event I attend was advertised on social media. The flyer distributed at the event was titled \u201cJustice for our MMIW:\u00a0 No More Stolen Sisters.\u201d Although it was on a Wednesday, in early May, there were many Native women present.\u00a0 \r\n<p><\/p>\r\nIt was a \u201cNational Missing and Murdered Relatives Awareness Day.\u201d The call was for Native people to attend; calling all \u201cIndigenous Dancers, Drummers &#038; Singers.\u201d It was \u201cIn loving remembrance of Jessica Alva and all of our stolen relatives\u201d.\r\n<p><\/p><div class=\"mt-1 mb-1\"><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8411603009680747\" data-ad-slot=\"6394965691\"><\/ins><script>(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/script><\/div><p><\/p>\r\nWhen the event began there was a welcome and opening prayer by Native people in the San Francisco Bay area.
