<\/p>\r\nThe U.S. Department of Agriculture<\/a> (USDA) is working to elevate its relationship with tribal nations and a Lakota woman is leading the way.\r\n

<\/p>\r\nHeather Dawn Thompson<\/a>, a citizen of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe<\/a>, joined the Joe Biden administration on January 20, on the president’s first day in office. As director of the Office of Tribal Relations<\/a>, she’s helping ensure that Indian Country is front and center at the USDA.\r\n

<\/p>\r\n\u201cWe oversee the diplomatic relationship, the government-to-government, nation-to-nation relationship, between the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and all the tribal nations,\u201d Thompson said in describing her role as leader of the tribal office.\r\n
