{"id":12068,"date":"2021-05-26T20:27:59","date_gmt":"2021-05-27T00:27:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.indianz.com\/News\/?p=12068"},"modified":"2021-05-26T20:27:59","modified_gmt":"2021-05-27T00:27:59","slug":"h-r-1688-native-american-child-protection-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2021\/05\/26\/h-r-1688-native-american-child-protection-act\/","title":{"rendered":"H.R.1688 &#8211; Native American Child Protection Act"},"content":{"rendered":"The U.S. House of Representatives considers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/1688\">H.R.1688<\/a>, the Native American Child Protection Act, on May 12, 2021.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\nThe bill updates the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/25\/chapter-34\">Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act<\/a>, which first became law in 1990 to help tribes and the federal government address child abuse in Indian Country amid reports of widespread victimization.\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n&#8220;My bill will improve the prevention, treatment, investigation, and \r\nprosecution of child abuse and neglect in Indian Country by ensuring \r\ntribes have the resources they need to take care of Native children in \r\nculturally competent ways,&#8221; said <a href=\"https:\/\/rubengallego.house.gov\">Rep.
