Participants will learn proven ways to respond to financial crises and have a chance to ask questions and learn from each other.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nWorkshop 2: Tribal Funding Impact Reports &#8211; Preparing Your Messaging with Data\r\nFriday, February 21 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nIn this one-hour workshop, Tribes will be given steps to produce a custom Funding Impact Report that can be used to advocate for the necessity of their Tribal federal funding. POLICY:<\/em><\/div>\r\n<div class=\"h5-responsive sub\">NAFOA Testifies Before Senate Indian Affairs on Native Priorities for the 119th Congress<\/div>\r\nLast week, NAFOA Board President Chairman Rodney Butler (Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation) testified at the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs (SCIA) Oversight Hearing titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indian.senate.gov\/hearings\/oversight-hearing-to-examine-native-communities-priorities-for-the-119th-congress\/\">Examine Native Communities\u2019 Priorities for the 119th Congress<\/a>.&#8221; This was the Committee\u2019s first hearing of the 119th Congress, highlighting challenges in Indian Country, tribal needs, and key priorities for the next two years. \r\n<P><\/P>\r\nIn his testimony, <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/indianz\/rodney-butler-nafoa?in=indianz\/sets\/oversight-hearing-to-examine-native-communities-priorities-for-the-119th-congress\">President Butler highlighted key issues affecting tribal finance, business development, and economies<\/a>, including the current funding freeze impacting many tribal programs.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" allow=\"autoplay\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/2033520212&#038;color=%23ff5500&#038;auto_play=false&#038;hide_related=true&#038;show_comments=false&#038;show_user=false&#038;show_reposts=false&#038;show_teaser=false\"><\/iframe> \r\n<div class=\"card border border-primary shadow-0\">\r\n<div class=\"card-body\">\r\n\u201cFirst, we will continue to emphasize that the relationship between the Federal Government of the United States and the Tribal Nations is rooted in a political relationship, not a racial or any other classification. The Supreme Court unanimously affirmed this in Morton v. Mancari and has consistently upheld this tenet. This political relationship, recognized within the U.S. Constitution, forms the foundation for modernizing the federal treatment of tribal governments and their enterprises. Their missions might include fostering financial inclusion, providing culturally informed services and improving access to capital and credit in low- and moderate-income communities. \r\n<P><\/P>\r\nThese institutions exist, yet many people remain unfamiliar with them. Historically, economic data gaps have masked economic conditions and opportunities in Native communities. The Center for Indian Country Development, a research and policy institute based at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, is working to change that. \r\n<P><\/P>\r\nCICD advances the economic self-determination and prosperity of Native nations and Indigenous communities through actionable data and research that inform public policy.
