The agreements would help resolve jurisdictional disputes that have arisen after the  <a href=https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2020\/07\/09\/on-the-far-end-of-the-trail-of-tears-nat.asp>historic U.S. Supreme Court decision in <em>McGirt v. Oklahoma<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChuckHoskin_Jr\">Chief Chuck Hoskin, Jr.<\/a> said.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n&#8220;It protects Cherokee sovereignty,&#8221; Hoskin said of a bill that is expected to be introduced in the <a href=https:\/\/www.house.gov\/>U.S. House of Representatives<\/a>.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n&#8220;It protects a hundred percent of <em>McGirt<\/em>, but it gives us options to compact,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/indianz\/cherokee-nation-tribal-state-compacting-press-conference\">Hoskin added<\/a>.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">McGirt is the most impactful ruling in Indian Country in generations, but jurisdictional gaps must be addressed. Tom Cole<\/a> (R-Oklahoma), who is a citizen of the <a href=https:\/\/chickasaw.net\/>Chickasaw Nation<\/a>.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nPrior to the press call, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BillAnoatubby\/\">Chickasaw Nation Gov. Anoatubby<\/a> said he supported the legislation.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n&#8220;We support federal legislation that is based on the core principle of self-determination, clearing the way for us to work with the state as we navigate the best path forward.
