President Trump will address&#8230;<\/p>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"content_cards_site_name\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/s\/desktop\/64df006f\/img\/favicon.ico\" alt=\"YouTube\" class=\"content_cards_favicon\"\/>\t\tYouTube\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<figcaption class=\"figure-caption\">ABC 7 News &#8211; WJLA: <a href=https:\/\/youtu.be\/Mc5-pPoqtHs>President Donald Trump Inauguration Day Parade at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.<\/a>\r\n<\/figcaption>\r\n<div class=\"h3-responsive font-weight-bold\">Canceled inauguration parade would have put spotlight on pro-Donald Trump Navajo group<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"date\">Tuesday, January 21, 2025<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"byline\">By Matthew DeWees<\/div>\r\n<DIV class=source>Cronkite News<\/DIV>\r\n<DIV class=source-website><A \r\nhref=\"https:\/\/cronkitenews.azpbs.org\/\">cronkitenews.azpbs.org<\/A><\/DIV>\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nWASHINGTON, D.C. &#8212; The Inaugural Parade, canceled three days before President  Donald Trump\u2019s swearing-in \u2013 would have featured a couple of dozen \u201cNavajos for Trump,\u201d activists who campaigned for Trump in Arizona and other states.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n\u201cWe were slugging it out door-knocking \u2026 everywhere we could get on the reservation,\u201d said Mike Woestehoff, a consultant in D.C. and a Native American advocate who grew up on the reservation in Ganado, Arizona. \u201cIt will be a nice little reunion.\u201d\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nForecasters expect a frigid afternoon Monday for them and roughly 7,500 other parade participants from 23 states, announced by the Trump Vance Inaugural Committee. Wind chill will be in the teens, making this the coldest inauguration since Ronald Reagan\u2019s in 1985.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nOn Friday, Trump announced that the inauguration would be moved indoors at the Capitol. All outdoor events, including the parade, were scrapped to protect the safety of VIPs, tens of thousands of supporters who planned to attend the ceremony on the National Mall, and the many police and National Guard who would have spent much of the day in the dangerous conditions. The inaugural committee scrambled over the weekend to arrange a viewing party inside the Capital One Arena that would included some of the groups invited to take part in the parade.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Navajos for Trump spearheaded door-knocking, parades, and community gatherings across the Navajo Nation fueling GOP gains in our Southwestern states. Nationally, he drew 39% of the Native American vote in November, according to an analysis by the Brookings Institution.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n\u201cAs Navajos, we would get some recognition that we are a Native group and that there are Native groups that are conservative and do support Trump,\u201d said Ina Noggle, a Trump supporter from Sanders, Arizona.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nIn Apache County, which includes Sanders and much of the Navajo reservation and where the electorate is overwhelmingly Native American, President Joe Biden outpolled Trump 65-32 in 2020, according to Arizona Secretary of State\u2019s Office records.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nIn November, Trump cut the Democrats\u2019 edge significantly, trailing Vice President Kamala Harris 59-40 in Apache County.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n<div class=\" content_cards_card content_cards_domain_indianz-com\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"content_cards_image\">\n\t\t\t\t<a class=\"content_cards_image_link\" href=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2025\/01\/20\/a-lot-of-big-plans-tribal-leaders-ready-to-get-to-work-with-new-presidential-administration\/\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/10\/crystalynecurley-1-2.jpg\" alt=\"\">\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t<div class=\"content_cards_title\">\n\t\t<a class=\"content_cards_title_link\" href=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2025\/01\/20\/a-lot-of-big-plans-tribal-leaders-ready-to-get-to-work-with-new-presidential-administration\/\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"content_cards_description\">\n\t\t<a class=\"content_cards_description_link\" href=\"https:\/\/indianz.com\/News\/2025\/01\/20\/a-lot-of-big-plans-tribal-leaders-ready-to-get-to-work-with-new-presidential-administration\/\">\n\t\t\t<p>Leaders of some of the largest tribal nations are optimistic and hopeful as Donald Trump becomes the 47th president of the United States.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"content_cards_site_name\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.indianz.com\/favicon.ico\" alt=\"Indianz.Com\" class=\"content_cards_favicon\"\/>\t\tIndianz.Com\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\r\n<P><\/P>\r\nOn Thursday, Navajo President Buu Ngygren \u2013 who endorsed Harris \u2013 sought to mend fences. He praised Trump\u2019s efforts to improve public safety in Indian Country during his first term, including a crackdown on narcotics and to shift control of natural resources to tribal governments.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n\u201cAs President Trump returns to the White House, I am hopeful that his administration will build upon the groundwork laid during his previous term,\u201d Nygren wrote.\r\n<P><\/P>\r\n\u201cPeople were afraid to come out and use their voice of how they feel, and the MAGA movement really gave something for these people to latch on and have a voice, as well as not to be afraid to speak out about how they feel,\u201d said Pablo Sigfredo Martinez, Republican chairman in McKinley County, New Mexico, which includes Gallup.
