THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2002

After being uninvited by his own tribe for a ceremony honoring the men who helped win World War II, David W. Tsosie has been recognized as a Navajo Code Talker.

But only by the state of New Mexico, The Farmington Daily-Times reports. The Department of Defense and the U.S. Marine Corps haven't confirmed Tsosie's status.

Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) and Rep. Tom Udall (D-N.M.) have been waiting for an answer on Tsosie.
