MONDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2001 Correction / Update: McCaleb will spend time discussing his Indian enegy summit, although he is expected to be asked about the trust fund debacle. Callers are encouraged to speak their free mind on any topic they wish, including their own assets. Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb will appear on Native America Calling today to discuss ongoing developments on the individual and tribal trust fund, the Department of Interior said. The appearance is McCaleb's second on the program since Secretary Gale Norton announced her controversial plan to strip the Bureau of Indian Affairs of its trust responsibilities. Both he and his boss defended the changes during a broadcast of the show on November 20. Since then, an overwhelmingly number of tribes have rejected the proposal. The National Congress of American Indians, the nation's largest tribal organization, asked Norton to withdraw her plan last week at its annual convention. Also, a federal judge has called McCaleb and Norton to trial to address contempt charges for their handling of the trust. The trial will start December 10 in federal court in Washington, D.C. Native America Calling is broadcast Monday through Friday from Albuquerque, New Mexico. The program begins at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Times. Today on Indianz.Com:
