Bush names Liu to Indian housing post

President Bush on Thursday announced his intention to nominate Michael Minoru Fawn Liu as Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development for Public and Indian Housing.

According to his White House biography, Liu currently the Sr. Vice President and Community Investment Officer for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago. He served in the Agriculture Department in the elder Bush administration and is a former Hawaii State Senator.

Liu would be in charge of Indian housing programs, which have come under fire in recent years. Criticism from Congress and internal audits have led to shakeups in leadership during the Clinton administration.

Liu would replace Harold Lucas. The position requires Senate confirmation.
