South Dakota Gov. Bill Janklow won the Republican nod for the state's Congressional seat by a 2-to-1 margin on Tuesday.

Janklow took about 55 percent of the votes cast. Larry Pressler, former U.S. Senator, trailed with about 27 percent.

Janklow will face Democrat Stephanie Herseth, an attorney. They are seeking to replace incumbent Rep. John Thune (R), who is running for U.S. Senate to replace Sen. Tim Johnson (D).

Janklow is most known to tribes from his days as state attorney general during the "reign of terror" on the Pine Ridge Reservation in the 1970s.
