Missed our stories? All the headlines for the week can be found here. Election dispute drags on Does America really need a President? And if so, do Americans want George W. Bush or Al Gore as their leader? The jury is still out on these questions, in more ways than one. Bush's Presidential activities this week primarily consisted of sitting at home in Texas while his running mate Dick Cheney set a bad example for healthy living as he focused on their transition efforts. Should the only American Indian Senator be part of the new Bush Cabinet, Cheney could take some advice from Ben Nighthorse Campbell, who reportedly works out every single day. Meanwhile, the outlook was pretty bleak for Gore as the United States Supreme Court and a Florida court delayed any hopes for a recount in Florida. But at the end of the week, the Florida Supreme Court granted Gore and Senator Joe Lieberman an early Christmas wish and ordered an immediate recount. Happiness was short lived, however. An upset Bush took his case all the way to the Supreme Court, who stopped the recounts on Saturday. The showdown continues... At least in Washington, the public knows the race is over. But the controversy for the state's Republican Party just began as members blamed their chairman for the defeat of Senator Slade Gorton and other GOP candidates. Chairman Don Benton has weathered political storms before. Still, some in Indian Country might say the party's troubles are just payback for their anti-tribal government resolution passed this past summer. Can't we all just get along?
